TyNewydd Alpacas supplying natural woollen gifts

Growing with our Herd…

In 2017, Emma and Steve gained full planning permission to turn the old barn dating back to at least 1850 into livestock welfare unit for their inquisitive, friendly Alpacas. At the other end of the barn they will create a mini woollen mill taking their business out of the house and down to the barn. They are both busy learning how to use a floor loom so that they can then make some of their super soft hypoallergenic woollen blankets on site, increasing their sustainable business and reducing their carbon footprint.

The couple have further expansion plans; to turn the barn back to how it used to look and at a later date, they plan to repair what was the old Tynewydd house on their land and create a shop to sell their Alpaca Wool products and to show visitors around their beautiful site next to the preseli hills, guests can then meet the stars of their business, their Alpaca herd.

Our Tips to Growing a Business…

For anyone looking to start or grow their own business:

  • Start by doing a business plan and cash flow projections before you get your business under way.
  • Check out the area you are in – can you sell the product, is anyone else already selling it, if so – check your prices!
  • Get planning as soon as the business is ready to go, so there aren’t any hold-ups to business growth.
  • Keep a close eye on the cash flow and expenses coming in and out.
